EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE
Coach Pete's November testing on the Bear River boys
varsity basketball team provided exciting results!
The following tests helped Coach Pete
monitor and track the varsity athlete's progress.
Coach Pete tested the boys varsity basketball athlete's
in the standing broad jump and 5-10-5 test.
Standing Broad Jump
The broad jump was measured to provide an indication
of explosive muscular power in the athletes.
5-10-5 Change of Direction Test
The 5-10-5 yard change of direction test, a lateral
quickness test, was used to measure the athletes agility
and body control in changing direction.
The 5-10-5 test provided Coach Pete information on the
athletes ability to quickly respond to a developing
play, abruptly decelerate, deftly change direction, and
resume acceleration. .
Subjects
The athletes in this program were varsity basketball
players ages 16 to 18 years of age. They went
through a partial 4 week speed and agility program with
Coach Pete.
They performed Speed, Agility and plyometric work on
Wednesdays and Fridays and performed General
Conditioning on Thursdays for less than 45 minutes each
session from October 08 through November 07 (4 weeks).
RESULTS
Below are their exciting results. One athlete added
12.25 inches to his standing long jump. Three
athletes shaved more than 1/2 second off their 5-10-5
time. All of the athletes increased in their
standing long jump (increase average of 5.9375 inches).
Most increased from 4" to 6." Two athletes had a
9" and 12" increase.
All of the athletes shaved time off of their 5-10-5 test
(decrease average 0.368 seconds). Three athletes
shaved more than 1/2 a second off of their time at
0.51; 0.54 and 0.62 and another athlete shaved 0.49
seconds off of his time.
All this improvement
occurred over the course of ONE MONTH of partial
training (only 3 days a week) with Coach Pete!
