So you are a weight loss client who has been on a
program with a personal trainer for over 3 to 6 weeks
and yet when you get on the scale - you find that you
haven't lost any weight. Huh?
Don't worry. You are doing fine. I wrote
this article to explain it to you and eliminate any
concerns you may have.
When using resistance exercise for fat loss, you are not
trying to lose weight you are trying to lose FAT.
If we were to perform a body composition test on you,
you would see that your lean body weight has increased
and that their has been a dramatic decrease in your
total fat. The scale can't accurately tell you the
TRUTH concerning all the great things that are currently
happening inside your body. Decreases in total fat
should NOT call attention to concern, but should call
for a CELEBRATION!
The decrease of total fat in your body happens because
your fat is being released into the bloodstream during
recovery between your resistance workouts. The fat
is being taken up into the muscles that you just worked
and being used as energy for recovery. The result
of this fat conversion is that you now have a much
heavier, energy replenished and well hydrated muscle
fiber with LESS STORED FAT in your body. Your
newly formed, energy replenished and well hydrated
muscle fiber is heavier than your old stored fat.
Thus, a TOTAL WEIGHT INCREASE OCCURS. What used to be
excess baggage is now increased muscular energy having
the responsibility of carrying around less baggage.

This is one of the many reasons why I feel resistance
exercise is better for health and weight management than
exclusive aerobic exercise. In aerobic exercise,
nothing useful is being done with FAT LOSS. It is
simply being lost through activity, doing nothing but
leaving the muscle tissue exhausted and your energy
stores depleted.
So don't worry about what the scale says. Your
scale can't tell you the truth about your body.
The truth is that your body IS being transformed into a
lean, mean, fighting machine!
